Hi everyone! I hope you all been good, I finally got a chance to grab myself a computer, thank God for family and their internet connections ;) lol.
So I've been doing a lot of thinking since I don't have a chance to procrastinate online anymore x] And I'm going to need your help. If ya'll don't mind of course :]
Lately I've been wondering if you guys even like the blog... ? No, seriously! I know that I don't really feature a lot of giveaways, or some fun-exciting-new meme on the blog, least of all interviews from authors (working on it, I promise!) or cover reveals. What we do have is book reviews and the occasional blog tour here and there. Now, I promise my feelings wont get hurt if you all just decide to lay it on me and tell me my blogging skills suck, I'll just huddle in a corner and sob ever so silently LOL But that's why we're here, so you can tell me what I can improve on. I'll be honest and say that if it weren't for Ning, you probably wouldn't see much activity on here, she's holding up the blog for the both of us, and that's just not gonna cut it! Ms Ning is a working hot-momma and I can't let the fate of Darkest Addictions rest solely on her shoulders. Which is why I'm sending out a distress signal to all our readers and asking for help.... so, HELP?!
First and foremost, I'd like to know what the majority is: YA or ADULT readers?
Since both Ning and I love reading a variety of genres, we do include YA reviews along with our Adult reviews, so it's a given that those will be featured on the blog. I would like to know the majority, so I can determine what sorts of activities to feature based on you the readers.
Secondly, Facebook: who's on there and is that the easiest way for you to keep up with blog posts? Also, what more can I do on facebook to get ya'll participating? There as well as on the blog..?
I know not everyone has a blog, and that most of us spend waayy too much time on FB anyways, so let me know our FB followers, I am determined to include everyone. Which leads me to inquiry numero tres y cuatro...
Twitter users: Do you follow?
Space is limited on twitter I know, but I'll find a way ;)
Goodreads: Who has one? And do ya'll follow on there as well?
Both Ning and myself have Goodreads profiles so it's not exactly for DAddictions, it's more of a way to check out our reviews as separate reviewers. Do you like being invited to giveaways and such on there?
Speaking of reviews, how are mine? Ning's totally kick ass, but do mine help you guys? Do you like short or long reviews? How about book quotes in the reviews?
Where do I go wrong, and what am I doing right? Do not be afraid to be honest, constructive criticism helps more than it hurts :)
Let's see, let's see... Oh! I was thinking about getting some pens and bookmarks made with our logo on it and blog name of course, use it as sort of swag for giveaways and such.. how would you feel about that ladies and gents?
So, I'm sort of the type of person to pat herself on the back whenever I feel something was well done, and I did this very thing when I came up with our blog logo and design, but what did ya'll think of it? If you haven't seen it yet, I have it up as the twitter page background: @DrkstAddictions
Because I feel this will be on every design I create here on forth for every one of our designs when Ning tells me it's time to move on *sobs*, I'd not only like to incorporate it on the pages, but also as an actual real live design for swag supplies. What's the verdict? Si? No?
Also, What kind of swag would you all like?
Lastly, and this is somewhat irrelevant... are there any FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY fans here? I have the physical copy, but I detested the book like you wouldn't believe -gasp- yes, I know... -shrugs- you win some you lose some, eh? ;) Anyways.... is there anyone who would like to swap books with me? or what do you guys think... should I offer it up n a giveaway? give it to the library? o.O ayudenme porfavor with a cherry on top of me?? -blinks innocently- lol

Alright loves, now I'd like to hear from you :)
All comments are welcome and thanks again to everyone!
*See you all next week!*

Hi lovely.....
ReplyDeleteI'm an adult reader - have read a couple of YA books but, tbh, I'm 42 and it just doesn't feel right reading about kids under 21.... :-\
I'm on Facebook & Twitter - also have a Wordpress blog of my own.
Use Goodreads and follow authors, bloggers and friends on there.
Like to read both of your reviews - find them helpful - don't mind the length (sometimes longer posts are needed, depending on the book).
Quotes from the story can be a pull - especially if they are funny, hot or intense!
Bookmarks are always good - tend to hand them out or put them into the local library to be distributed. Pens are always a good marketing item....
No great opinion on swag tbh. Tend to review and recommend authors/bloggers because I like them not for any incentives.
50 shades - so not a fan.... Never read it, don't want to read it, won't go to see the movie, don't care who is likely to play CG or the wee lass, got it for a xmas present and it's gone back. Don't understand the hype tbh - and don't want to add to that in any way, shape or form - I've read books from a lot of indie authors that I love and (from what I can make out from what I've read and heard) are better than 50......
This is where I put my riot gear on to stave off the flack!! ** duck** :p
Give your copy to the library or a charity shop.......
Hi!
ReplyDeleteso more adult but i also enjoy YA ( but so far it's not the majority of my reading)
no facebook or twitter for me ( sorry)
i use goodread and i wouldn't mind following both of you there or entering giveaway there
your review did helped me, i don't mind their length as long are they are honest and done with your heart
as for swag being international i don't always have acces to it but i collect bookmark and i discovered i love water bottle too^^ so i woulsd say anything is fine as long as international aren't excluded.
no 50shades for me thank you ^^;; better to give it to someone who would like it
Aw I love your blog Neyra! I'm more of an adult review reader but I do dabble in YA so I don't mind those :) I've enjoyed both your reviews and Ning's and like them how they are.
ReplyDeleteI'm a FB follower. I think Twitter as well but I'm not so much a twitter user though I'm trying. For facebook I've found post timing is really the best way to get involvement and asking questions and posting on a regular basis. The pre-scheduled posts on there are great for when you want to post things but don't have the time.
One thing that would really help me is if you had an email subscription. Not just the RSS but where I can subscribe with my email address and get an actual email in my inbox when yall post. That's the way I really keep up with most of the blogs I follow :)
Yall are doing great though Neyra and I love the posts you put up!

Swag is always good! Pens, chapsticks, bookmarks. Love em all.
I say switch it up so you don't isolate anybody. Variation is good and on that note Id suggest toy take down the 18 only warning when you enter the blog. A little less extra thing to click helps with activity.
ReplyDeleteFB is great to highlight books esp is you don't have time to write up a full review yet. You know when you're still on gush mode? Twitter is great for interactive stuff. As for more active following, I realized that visiting & commenting on other blogs is the most effective way to invite people over. From experience that's how we get people to comment on posts or visit our blog.
Swag is great and don't sweat about your reviews, Ning. as long as its constructive and honest you're OK.
Running a poll when you're conflicted helps too!
Ay... *scrolls back to the top*
ReplyDelete#1 - you know me and my genre hopping ass. I like it a bit mixed up. Sometimes there are some really awesome YA novels that I haven't heard of that you and Ning can recommend me too (Opression was effing awesom tyvm.)
#2 - *cough* what are you talking about? I'm not always on FB! lmbo. I find it a lot easier to get on FB and click links to your new posts, as well as everyone else I follow. When I get on blogger, I feel overwhelmed and that I'm only getting to a few new posts. And since I follow a shit load of people, I feel that I'm not getting around to everyone. So, FB stats and what not really help :)
#3 - Si, I follow on Twitter. And like FB that helps, but unlike FB, Twitter doesn't refeed older posts. So, it I'm not on Twitter the time you post it, then I might miss it (again, I follow so many people) But, I like that you can just spam away at all times of the day :)
#4 - I'm not as active on Goodreads, but I do comment on stats as well as add books to my TBR list that people are reading that I'm following :)
#5 - Lol. You are Nings reviews are awesome. I like that I can tell the difference between the both of your reviews. *shrugs* So, it's not the same. I think that's good. Que no?
#6 - yes, I like your design and yes swag would be awesome :) Bookmarks always work :) I'd say pens, but I have some swag pens that I don't even use (I find them too precious lol)
#7 - Never read 50 and I don't plan too anytime soon. Lol.

1. I mostly read adult books and a few of the hyped up YA books.
ReplyDelete2. I rarely follow blogs on FB. I prefer to keep FB for keeping up with friends and family. I mostly follow blogs via GFC or RSS.
3. I rarely follow blogs on twitter. I prefer to keep twitter for celebrity stalking ;)
4. I don't mind the occasional GR invite, but not a daily one. I have unfollowed people for that.
5. I don't have any issues with either of your reviews. I prefer shorter reviews without a lot of gifs, and I love quotes. Sometimes a quote can push a book from the maybe list to the to-be-bought list.
6. Great work on the logo! Very cute! I don’t' really have much use for swag, but I would vote for pens or post-its.
I follow via FB, Twitter & I think Goodread...I think (I gots to check) A lil variation is good like Braine said...I'm trying New Adult on my blog, so I'm adding it to my reviews.
ReplyDeleteI think your reviews are great Neyra & Nings too, again as long as your honest :)
I haven't read 50 Shades...I actually have books 2 & 3 paperbacks...wanna do a co-giveaway?...coz honestly, I doubt if I read em :)
oh...I loves the blog!
DeleteI think that you should read and review what you ENJOY. If you read it, they will come! That's been my motto. I review a variation on my blog, and thought I trend more YA, I do love Adult fiction and it surprises me what gets hits on the blog. I did a lot of giveaways last year, not on purpose, it just ended up that way. This year will be a little leaner.
ReplyDeleteI follow you via RSS, and I think I follow Ning on GR.
Lol. Jennifer your comment "If you read it, they will come!" totally reminded me of that movie Field of Dreams "If you build it, he will come" xD
